"So far so good after I replaced 2 hydrologic hoses that had small leaks. Starts every time. Does what I need it to do. I ripped up grass then tilled it up and put my garden in. I've used it to move brush and horse manure. I also was cutting a tree down the other day and it started going the wrong way, got in the tractor, used the bucket to make the tree fall where I wanted to. I got it with around 211 hours on it and so far I've put 20 hours on it. I haven't gotten it stuck yet but I did have to pull out my father-in-law's New Holland TC29 when he got it stuck in the horse manure pile. The tractor weighs around 4,000 pounds and it seems to be pretty heavy duty for a compact tractor. I'm just concerned about getting parts for it like big parts and also getting it repaired since they no longer make Montana tractors, but I'll have to cross that bridge when it happens."
"I bought the tractor used with only 30 hours on it. I don't use it much but have recurring problems with the battery charge, it's always dead. This could be because I don't start it often. The only problem I've had is the glow plug timer system. The relay went out twice and then I ended up with a direct drain (current going to plugs the whole time, running or not. I finally installed a manual push-to-connect switch and I just hold it in 10 seconds before starting. Other than this issue, I've had no problems. It pulls very well and has crawled out of some incredible mud with the front wheel assist. It turns very sharp, small radius."
"Previously owned a John Deere 790. Coming off of the gear shift un-synchronized transmission of the 790 I love the shuttle shift on my 300dtc. It makes loader work so much easier. My main goal in getting rid of the 790 was so that I could move my 1,200 lbs round bales of hay by picking them up instead of pushing them across the ground with the 790. I couldn't be more happier! I still need to get a 3-point bale spear attachment but the front bale spear is working just fine. I had rimguard ballast put in the rear tires and with the weight box from my previous tractor it does just fine. As noted with only 5 hours on the tractor I don't have much else to say right now but this tractor is loaded with standard features like a rear worklight, rear remotes, draft control, spring-tensioned operator seat, etc. It is a definite upgrade to my previous unit."
"I have had this Montana 3040 for four years now and have about 550 hours on it. It has a curved boom loader and I have a 7' rear blade, 6' rotary cutter, and a 6' box blade for it. Around 75% of the hours have been mowing with this tractor. I mow in the summer time for all the people around my neighborhood. The tractor itself has been great. It has performed well for me. I had a glow plug timer go out at about 400 hours, the loader valve is now leaking, and the foot throttle spring has broke about 3 times. I really like the features on this tractor and love the shuttle shift transmission. The bad features of this tractor are where the loader controls are located. You cannot exit the tractor on the right side. I am a pretty small guy and if I was much bigger this tractor would feel cramped. The mesh screen before the radiator cannot be taken out of the track without taking off the radiator support, the loader brackets get in the way. A poor design by my standards. "
