"I've been happy with my old Long 460. It did have a hazy blue exhaust smoke but I had the injectors cleaned/pop tested and the injection pump rebuilt now no more smoke. I like the independent PTO. It has a clutch lever for the PTO so you can run an implement regardless of foot clutch position. It also has a synchronised PTO gear where the PTO shaft speed is related to ground speed not engine speed. For any future or current owners it should be noted that the PTO lever should only be used to engage/disengage the gear and not run around with the lever raised or you will wear out the throwout bearing. The 3PT lift has draft control and position control. I have had zero problems from this tractor other than me being really picky about the exhaust smoke prior to pump rebuild. It ran fine before but smoked (pump shop said timing was retarded). The transmission is noisy in low range because of straight cut gears. The brakes work great. My father has a Ford 3000 and you have to stand on the brakes to stop it but not the long. I graded my driveway yesterday with a 7 FT box blade up a steep hill with no problems even with the box blade full of gravel. It handles a 6 FT bushhog fine. This past winter for the heck of it I tried starting it up when the temperature was in the tens just to see and had no problems starting. When I got it the lights and fuel gauge didn't work. I found a pinched wire causing a short and a new fuel float fixed the gauge. Now everything works including the instrument lights and from what I've seen, that is not common on a 25 year old tractor. "
