5740 Still Doing A Great Job

"Nothing has changed. I am still very satisfied with this purchase after nine years. It is designed to work and do everything it was built to do! If I was going to buy a used tractor I'd buy this one. The first issue experienced just recently is that a very tiny clamp (looks like a redesigned paper clip) came loose on the fuel line from the tank. There was lots of diesel fuel including a smoking engine but I caught it just in time. I will modify it for a more secure/robust fix. The front-end loader is so strong that if the grapple is stuck on tree roots or equivalent to that, it will lift the rear of the tractor off the ground with a 1300 pound mower on back and two sets of rear wheel weights. The strength of the three-point is great. It handles a 1300 pound mower just great. You just have to ride the three-point control over rough ground. I can trim right up to the edge of the creek with it slightly elevated. I love the hydrostatic for smooth, slow operation around all obstacles. I'm glad I went with it versus a manual gear tractor. The cruise control lever (for cutting hay fields, etc.) is also well thought out. My only critique so far is that I would prefer a power take-off lever versus a yellow knob when I'm looking backwards, and the owner's manual was designed for a 5th grader. Example: "Do not operate tractor on slope or hill to steep for safe operation." It still burns me. Kubota and others could do much better giving basic weight and balance information. You don't dread having to change a piece of equipment. It's just a few minutes and you're on your way to do a different job. This tractor exceeds my expectations. I did not expect this much strength with a compact tractor. There is very little not to like on this tractor after nine years. It can lift and mow at the same time and has the power to do it all. After nine years performance, it's still doing the job flawlessly minus the issue with the fuel line. "

"Nothing has changed. Still very satisfied with this purchase after 4 years. No problems. Designed to work! This tractor replaced a 1954 Ford Jubilee that worked well the past 9 years. I was getting ready to purchase a Deere model when I talked to a Deere mechanic and I threw out the word "Kubota". The look in his eye when he said "I can't badmouth a Kubota" said volumes when it comes to small tractors. The Anbo grapple continues to spend more time on the front end than my bucket. There's no limit to it's usefulness here on the farm. Tractorbynet members talked me into getting a grapple...best advice ever. Starting at negative temperatures during the winters - no problem. FEL is so strong that if grapple is stuck on tree roots or equivalent that it will lift the rear of the tractor off the ground with 1300 lb mower on back and two sets of rear wheel weights. The strength of the three point is great. It handles 1300 lb mower just great. You just have to ride the 3 pt control over rough ground. I can trim right up to the edge of the creek with it slightly elevated. I LOVE the HST for smooth, slow operation around all obstacles. I'm glad I went with HST versus a manual gear tractor. The cruise control lever (for cutting hayfield, etc.) is also well thought out. My only critique so far is I would prefer a PTO lever versus a yellow knob when I'm looking backwards and the owners manual was designed for a 5th grader. Example: "Do not operate tractor on slope or hill to steep for safe operation". Still burns me. Kubota and others could do much better giving basic weight and balance information. Today I had to change back and forth a couple of times with the grapple and bucket. It was a piece of cake. You don't dread having to change a piece of equipment. A few minutes and you're on your way to do a different job. Thanks for the heads up and bleeding down the 3rd function valve on the grapple hydraulics with the key on. It would have taken much longer had it not been pointed out. This tractor exceeds my expectations. I did not expect this much strength with a compact tractor. There is very little not to like on this tractor at this point. It can lift and mow at the same time and has the power to do it all. After 4 years performance...it's still doing the job flawlessly."

"When I told my John Deere dealer that my JD 4720 CUT couldn't hold a candle to the Kubota L5740 he had rented me while my JD was in for repairs, he told me that I should compare the L to his 5065E instead of the 4720. I said, "you're right!" This tractor is amazing in terms of its ability to get work done. It may not be quite as plush in the cab but when it comes to power and capability in the field, you can't stop it. "

"I got the tractor to replace the 8N Ford I was using. The main thing was to run the 5 foot snow blower. When I would us the Ford it did not have a slow rev. gear, and I would have to run into snow banks and hope that I didn't kill the tractor. The Kubota has the hydro-static drive and has a slow rev. gear that allows me to keep blowing snow all the way down the drive, that is .5 mile long. About 4 four years ago, I bought the front loader and backhoe for it. I need to clean a area behind my pond to repair the old dam and need some way to move dirt. In the last 3 years I have been able to remove around 50 trees of all sizes from 6 inches in size up to 2.5 feet. In all this time I have done only oil changes and filters. The only problem I have had is that the safety switch in the seat will sometime trip if I slide on the seat."

Pros: Runs good has power. Cons: The saftey switch in the seat and fuses not labled with everything they go to. Type of User: Homeowner 50-100 Acres Location: USA OH I also considered buying:

"I am VERY happy with my tractor. My machine is outfitted with FEL (including 3rd function valve), 2 rear remotes plumbed to top and tilt cylinders, block heater, and rear tires(R1) loaded with rimguard. Rear end implements I use are a 6' brush hog, box blade, and 3pt carry-all box. FEL attachments are HD bucket, pallet forks, and root grapple. The L5740 is a lot of power in a very maneuverable package. I do equal amounts of work in the woods as I do in an open field, and I have been able to get everywhere I need to get the job done. Fuel usage has been reasonable. Controls are well placed in the "cockpit". Everything is right where I instinctively reach for it, and that was one of the main selling points for me. I spent time on similarly sized JD and Kioti machines before purchasing, and while those are both high quality manufacturers, I found that the Kubota felt much more natural to me as an operator. Kubota has a reputation for great hydro-static transmissions, and in my experience it has lived up to the billing. The diesel fires up fast and has plenty of power. I have had no problems at all with the turbo. The biggest thing to remember with that is to give it a minute to cool at idle before shutting it down. Maintenance has been a breeze with all of the fluid ports and grease fittings easily accessible. I have no real complaints about the machine. Getting in and out of the cockpit can be a little inconvenient if you need to access something on the right side. There is only access on the left with the open station design because of the placement of the FEL joystick. Not a huge issue (I was aware before I purchased), but I notice it every once and a while. Also, there is more power in the machine than there is weight, but this is the same challenge you find on every CUT. So traction can be an issue if you don't have enough ballast. 4WD helps equalize that, and the loaded rears are almost a must (especially with a lot of loader work). Also, I typically run with the box blade on for a little extra traction and ballast for lifting. Again, not really a complaint because I would rather have the power than not. It is pretty easy to add weight, but not so much with power. My dealer (Alexander Equipment) and Kubota have both gone the extra mile to make the buying experience great. Post purchase support has been just as good. "

"Moved up from a 3240 to this 5740. The 3240 did everything that I asked it to do but I always wanted a bit more power therefore I traded to the 5740. I have never wanted for power with the 5740 for the things I do. The only thing that I wish for is a self leveling bucket on the loader but I can live with that. not much else to say other that if I ever trade, it will be another Kubota."

"The tractor is great. I can't say that I have had any major problems except with the dealer I purchased the unit from. I wanted to save $2,000.00 so I bought from a dealer that was some miles from me. I did not have a good experience. Now to the tractor. I put the tractor through it's paces and broke some items. Through the KTAC Insurance that was purchased at the same time as the tractor they picked up my unit, fixed it, and delivered it back to me good as new. The tractor has very good power and stability although I did have to move the rear wheels out. 4 wheel drive has plenty of power. The HST is excellent with a wide range of customization for the best power to speed ratio. I am very pleased with the unit and will never own anything different."

"I bought this tractor a few years ago and I am definitely a Kubota fan! I owned smaller JDs and upgraded to a Kubota B2900 and then to this Kubota L5740. I own 50 Acres of Hard Woods, 1/4 mile long driveway and over 2 miles of trails. This tractor does everything I need it to and more. I do wish the loader had more lift capacity as it's around 1900 lbs. I often run into very large logs/water tanks I move around, but beside that it is a great tractor without any issues so far."

Pros: Large tractor with a small footprint. Cons: Lift capacity. Type of User: Homeowner 10-50 Acres Location: USA NY I also considered buying: John Deere 4520
