"It has been a good tractor so far, mainly used for snow blowing and pulling heavy trailers. It seems like it could use more power and the hydraulics do not float very well when using the snowblower. Hydraulic hose failure at 300 hours left the machine stranded. Love the 4x4, There is no need for chains, but it does not turn very sharp so not used for mowing."
"Bought a low hour X585 with 62" deck (mulch kit) in July. I've used it to mow my yard which has a couple of small hills. Tried doing it in 2WD only but I end up slipping around so the 4WD comes in handy for those spots. I purchased a model 45 loader for it which is wonderful. Also bought a 54" blade for snow removal on my driveway. I purchased the JD rubber strip for the bottom of the blade and it does an outstanding job on my driveway. I could not be happier with the purchase. I was ready to buy a brand new X738 but the lack of the ability to put a loader on it (JD says it 1. will not fit and 2. will void the warranty) sent me to the used market. While I could see how to get past #1, the idea of voiding a warranty on a $12k tractor seemed like a bad idea. I started looking for a low hour 2012 or older X-series. Ended up realizing the X585 (and X595) are a bit of a 'hidden gem' in that the cost is significantly less than the X7xx series equivalents, but with almost no difference in actual functionality. If you're looking for a remarkably capable small tractor, the JD X585 or X595 should be at the top of your list. Biggest bang for the buck in the used JD small tractor market. Power steering, switchable 2WD to 4WD, locking differential, dual hydraulics, loader capable...everything the X7xx series has without the price tag (yeah...there are some subtle differences in the 4WD system, but hardly worth the thousands of $'s you'll spend to get a X7xx)."
"I traded with a neighbor. He didn't think the dealer was allowing him enough. I had a JD 425 that needed some TLC. He does that, so he figured he could get a better trade, and he did. I have the 62 " mulching deck, and I mow over 3 acres. Some is hilly, some rough, and some wet. The 4wd is great for my situations. When I am stuck and spinning, I engage the 4wd and get unstuck easily."
