Model year: 1993 Date Purchased: 1993-09-01 Number of Hours: 990

"I bought this tractor new and I cannot say enough good things about the service I have gotten. It is reliable to a fault; the only problems I have had I consider more in the order of maintenance, i.e. belts, a couple wheel bearings, one clutch replacement and a tie rod. The engine still runs good after approximately 1000 hours of service, and it still cuts and runs really well. "

REVIEWER'S ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Pros: Extremely reliable and does a good job on the lawn. Cons: The plastic hood developed stress cracks and the hinge broke off. It steers rather hard. Type of User: Homeowner 1-10 Acres Location: USA OK I also considered buying:

"The Lawn Tractor was pulled from behind Garage in semi decent shape. A little work and she runs just fine. I was really disappointed with the design of the hood. It was broken and apparently this is very common with series. I was also disappointed in the online support. Most makers have manuals and parts list online. JD only sales their manuals and the parts are very expensive. It seems they give a lot of undue weight to the JD name. If they cannot improve their designs and ease up on the prices, I see a problem in the future of non-commercial sales. The name will only carry so far. I have an old Murray that will keep up with it in most respects and the parts are much cheaper and the information online is plentiful despite the company being out of business. "

"Just sold my LX172 to a coworker for 600.00 and bought a new X300. The 172 was very reliable. Never once let me down. Over the years maintained with regular oil chages, new belts, blades. The original battery lasted 12 years (without using any kind of battery tender). The seat finally cracked at about 15 years old but stll useable. I am guessing that my friend who bought it will get many more years of dervice from it. The Kawasaki engine never missed a beat. Well built."
