"I have small lot with a lot of turning so the power steering is wonderful. I had already decided on another brand, but stopped at the JD dealer to look at the X310. Salesman said drive it around and I fell in love with power steering. JDs are pricey, but have a good reputation. When you look at other tractors, they look flimsy compared to the JD. On the X310 the transaxle is serviceable, so I expect to get 10 or more years out of it. I had a used LT 155 that I got 10 years out of plus the 3 or 4 from previous owner and it still runs well. I got a good deal on a new, year-old 2013 model with 0% financing. I got a bagger with this and it works great. The only time it plugs is when I don't pay attention to the bags are full indicator. Before this I never had a bagger that didn't plug. Unlike most other mowers there is no shaft or knob on either side of the seat. So you can get on and off easily, even with the bagger chute installed."

REVIEWER'S ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Pros: Power steering, K58 serviceable transaxle, quiet, easy to get on and off as there are no shafts or knobs. Cons: Steering ratio too high, seat safety switch too sensitive. Type of User: Homeowner 1-10 Acres Location: USA IN I also considered buying: Simplicity Regent EX, Cub Cadet LTX 1046 KW

"I like our JD a lot. I only use it for yard maintenance, mowing and pulling a trailer. But it starts every time, mowes great, and I really like the power steering and hydraulic deck lift. I wish more than 1 size mower deck was available, it's only available with the 42" mower deck, and a 48" or 54" would be a nice option."

REVIEWER'S ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Pros: Runs great, comfortable seat, power steering and hydraulic deck lift. Cons: Price, lack of mower deck choices. Type of User: Homeowner 1-10 Acres Location: USA WI I also considered buying:

"Hi Folks, I replaced my Snapper Rider after 30 years of use. I purchased the JD X310 with 42" deck, bag attach, & 40" shovel. This machine is a work horse. The shovel allowed me and a helper to move 3 ton of base ball size rock out of a garden and scrap and re store property to natural look. The shovel worked great, it has some issues in lift height. The hydraulic deck & power steering are a plus when multitasking when seeding or cutting grass. You will appreciate the JD over the mechanical Snapper when you've reached your peak years. It's really not that much more than the box store machines, how ever a step up. The power steering allows me to move along and quickly steer around objects, and the forward and reverse gas pedals that operate the trans axle are a joy to use."

REVIEWER'S ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Pros: The X310 is like having an automatic with power steering, job gets done faster. Cons: The seat safety engine cut off switch is an issue if you want to stand while moving. Type of User: Homeowner 1-10 Acres Location: USA NJ I also considered buying: Snapper RER12.5/28

JD X 310: The Good and the Questionable

"I have recently purchased a John Deere X310 to replace my very old and very worn LT155. There was no direct replacement for the LT155; you have to go lighter or heavier duty. I decided to move up. Admittedly, I am very picky and want a tool to work the way I want it to work. Very unfair, of course. I have only used the machine about 10 hours, and have not decided if I will keep it. On the other hand, I'm not sure what the alternative would be. Here's the good (compared to my old LT155): - The twin cylinder engine is smoother than the one-lunger. - The machine is slightly faster in forward and reverse, which is appreciated. - The seat provides better lower back support and rides smoother. Here's the bad: - My main gripe is the power steering. It is effortless, however, they have increased the steering wheel turns, lock-to-lock, by 100%! My LT155 is 1.5 compared to the X310's 3 turns. The result of this is your steering corrections are greatly increased from the old machine. You need to be constantly spinning the wheel back and forth with the palm of your hand. - They have reduced the rear wheel size. I'm not sure if this is the cause, but the new machine will spin the tires more easily when going up a steep hill. - The seat kill switch is overly sensitive. Better not lean over on a side hill or the machine will kill. - The reverse pedal is too high, relative to the forward pedal. I keep catching the side of my boot when trying to reverse. - If you try to reverse while mowing, you must lift the mower engagement switch or the mower will shut off. If you are maneuvering in a confined area where you must repeatedly go from forward to reverse, you must keep one hand on this switch. I hope I can rewire this to eliminate this annoying feature. When I bought the mower, I expressed my frustration with my old mulching-only mower deck. Of course, it didn't work well in high grass. I opted for the regular deck and a mulching kit (which is REALLY hard to install). The mowing results are questionable. I wish the salesman knew that the new mulching-only deck had ports you can open if you needed to mow tall grass. It would have been a no-brainer decision for me. I do like John Deere, but you gotta wonder if they every use these things before they put them on the market... hope this helps someone with their decision."

REVIEWER'S ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Pros: Faster, better seat, easy steering. Cons: Slow steering ratio, annoying switches, poor traction, awkward pedals. Type of User: Homeowner 10-50 Acres Location: USA MN I also considered buying:

"I am getting older now and wanted power steering. I compared the new Cub Cadet LGTX-1050 and the GTX-2100, both have electric power steering. While stopped, both cubs steered hard for having power steering. The dealer said they worked better when moving! I have driven manual steering tractors that were nicer. The X-310 is like pure silk, even stopped. Now my complaints: The tires are too small and the tractor bounces more than my last mower. Maybe if I take out some air it will help. The seat switch is built into the center of the seat in such a way that if I lean, to get traction on even a slight hill, or look to see where the ramps are, the motor shuts off. If I even lift one cheek for any other reason, the motor will shut off. Come on John Deere, put the switch under the seat, not in it. "

REVIEWER'S ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Pros: Power steering is like silk. Cons: Small tires, large turning radius, seat switch is of a bad design. Type of User: Homeowner 1-10 Acres Location: USA NY I also considered buying:

"I have had LT133JD and LT155JD. Both were great, but this tractor is bigger yet turns shorter more comfort and more power. Did not need p/s but like the serviceable trans. Have only mowed once but pulled fert., spreader, and aereator. Trans. worked great on neighbors steep yard. As of now would recommend to anyone if 42 inch deck will serve needs(if not x360). I also purchased bagger, but have not used as yet."

"My small yard (about 1 acre) has a few slopes. My first use of the mower was to roll the yard. In places where my old tractor would either stall or stop, my new x310 just kept right on going. The power steering is wonderful, and the transmission is really outstanding. I was able to control the machine to a crawl to get it up wet hills while pulling the roller. I can't wait to cut the grass with it!"

REVIEWER'S ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Pros: Quiet operation, superb transmission, power steering/deck lift. Cons: None. Type of User: Homeowner 1-10 Acres Location: USA IN I also considered buying:

"This is the buy if you don't need or desire a 48" or larger mow deck. I mow 75 acres and a 48" mow deck is too big around my obstacles... That's what drove me to the X310. For the money---and with the $500.00 JD rebate, no better deal IMO. X320 just a $100.00 more with bigger engine...but the smallest deck is the 48" deck and as stated that was just a bit too big for my needs. Big takeaways: 1. Power Steering ---- try it once and you'll end up buying it. The other tractors steer just fine ... but PS makes the experience like cutting "warm butter." 2. Hydro lift --- not just for the mower deck but for snow blade also ... and added benefit. 3. Last --- the real reason I got this over the X300 or X304 --- the K58 transmission. This is a serviceable transmission where you are expected to change the filter and oil for longer life!"

REVIEWER'S ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Pros: K-58 tranny, power steering, hydro lift system. Cons: None. Type of User: Homeowner 1-10 Acres Location: USA VA I also considered buying: John Deere X320, Snapper NXT 23/46
