"The tractor itself has the power to do almost all you want to do, but the biggest flaw on the tractor is the condensation one gets in the fuel tank. Summer or winter, water will get in the fuel. We buy our fuel at a location where others buy for their tractor, we buy fuel additive made by John Deere and it doesnt matter. You will get water in the tank and sooner or later the tractor will quit running and you will have to drain the tank. "

"The only fault I have found with the 5105 is that the wiring harness and fuel lines underneath need better protection. Though, I admit it was probably never intended for clearing the land I used it for, a small dozer would have been a better match. That being said I could put the bucket down just clearing the ground with the front end locked in and in L-1 and the tractor would almost idle through 6" bay, gum and pines like they were broom sage. we drug the fuel line off in the first hour or so of work but tucked it under whatever would hold it when we hooked it back up and haven't had a problem with it since. Same of wiring, a lot of wires were pulled loose but again the tractor was really not meant to be used for clearing the kind of terrain it was asked to. I have pulled 8" to 10" pine trees by chaining off high in the tree with no problems. I am a first time tractor owner, I can just imagine what this tractor would do in the hands of a experienced operator. Oh, and it will pull a 16" double bottom plow buried to the max like it ain't even there. I would highly recommend the 5105 MFWD but now that the clearing is done it is a little overkill for what I use it for, farming 3 acres and mowing, cleaning fire break and some ditch and road maint., something around 30 horse would be a better match now."

REVIEWER'S ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Pros: Power, simple & dependable to operate & maintain; Good support available. Cons: Fuel lines and wiring (underneath) could be better protected. Type of User: Homeowner 1-10 Acres Location: USA FL I also considered buying:

"For strictly farming and mowing I would have given all 5's but using it for pushing brush it became quickly obvious it was never designed for that use. After about an hour the engine shut down, the unprotected fuel line had been drug off, easy fix and back in business in under an hour. Numerous unprotected wires have been pulled loose while being used by me and the previous owner. at first oil change I found that the oil filter is so tight against the engine case that it is near impossible to get a filter wrench on the filter, evidently the previous oil changer discovered the same thing. It took the old filter off with my bare hands.the lever for 2wd/4wd sticks frequently and I have to get under the tractor to shift it. over all it is a great tractor (keep in mind it is my first tractor) and has performed every task asked of it from land clearing to farming ops and road, fire break and ditch maint. If using a bucket 4wd is a must,a co-worker attempted to push some of my brush with a new 65 horse JD 2wd and couldn't get it done, after I bought mine I could just put it in 4wd and idle right through it. I would highly recommend the 5105 for ag ops and homestead maint. I saved about 50% by buying used, had I paid full price for a new tractor I would have been more let down by the minor problems I had above and in addition the mechanic who serviced the tractor prior to me buying left the PTO lever disconnected and the clutch for the PTO was not adjusted so there was a few hot moments the first time I hooked up the bush hog and tried to mow. Despite that, I have been extremely happy with all the folks at Green South equipment, from sales to parts and service they have been honest and extremely helpful anytime I have called on them. "I bought tractor used with 90 hours. I have added a Deere 512 FEL. My tractor is 2WD and I would recommend if going with a 2WD to get the 16.9-28 rear tires and or 4WD if possible. My 2WD has served me well, but there are times 4WD would be nice. So far I am very pleased with my tractor. It is is not a feature loaded machine, but is simple and reliable."
