"When I first purchased this tractor, the gauge panel would fog up and the tractor would not start. The gauge panel was replaced twice and is still fogging up. The paint job on tractor is poor, as it is peeling. The power lift is hard to use. It is a diesel guzzler. I am disappointed in the performance."
"I am absolutely disappointed with this utility tractor. It has 220 hours and the tractor is in the shop for the third time. So far I have had a short under the dash, a neutral safety switch malfunction, it ran hot, the brakes dragging, a fuel line burst, and a hydraulic line split. Do not buy a 5045. You will regret it!"
"John Deere made very bad machines. I had ford 3600 before this and she was amazingly reliable and durable than this."
"I am very satisfied with this tractor. This is my first diesel. I previously had an IH 240 that I should have restored as it was old enough to consider an antique so that may be why I consider this an excellent utility tractor. I use it to move round hay bales, brush hog, & pull a cart. I have needed to use the block heater only once - all other times it starts in the cold Pennsylvania winters."
"After putting about 30 hours on the tractor I couldn't be happier with it! The build quality is up to par with what you would expect with a green tractor. I got the machine with the 512 John Deere loader and have yet to regret not getting a 4 wheel drive. Looking forward to years of service!"
"Just got my tractor a few days ago, but so far I love it. I was torn between this and the 4wd model, but do not regret my decision. Pulls a 6' bush hog through thick brush without a problem. Plenty of traction for loader work around the farm. I look forward to years of service out of it!"
"Used for operating rotary cutter in pastures and fence lines, front end loader, box blade for road maintenance. "
"Excellent basic machine, 45 HP but conservatively rated. Pulls a 16" x 14" Hesston baler easily, which is supposed to take a 50HP machine minimum. Lower HP machine built on a larger frame, not a compact which I think is important for hay work. I'm 6' 7" and have plenty of room. I would never buy any tractor without a canopy and this one works great. Very reliable and a pleasure to drive. I also have a 75HP Mahindra (7520) also in 4 wheel drive and the Deere does all as well except it is too small to run the 1033 hay stacker. I recommend always buying a little more tractor than you need because too small is not much cheaper. The 5045 can be turned into a 5065 65 HP just by turning up the pump. We compared all of the specs and looked at the machines, there are absolutely no other differences...except price. This machine is used mostly to mow large grass areas in my mobile home park, and is a second tractor for haying on my farm."
"A very good utility tractor. No bells or frills, but perfect if you just need a basic 2wd workhorse. Solid and well built. Heavy for its size and hp. Handles 512 loader, 80" Bush hog very comfortably. Haven't used my disc yet. Overall, a very good value."
"This is a great medium sized tractor. I have thoroughly enjoyed it. It is easy to operate and very comfortable. It is great for planting food plots, keeping my roads cleared and bush hogging. I plan to install a 512 bucket loader on it soon."
