"My 2555 is run almost every day. I use it to cut and bail hay squares and round rolls I use for everything. Only problem I have had with it is the a/c compesser other then that no problems."
"The John Deere 55 series (1987-1992), and earlier series are excellent tractors that are easy to work on and don't have all of the computers (read: reliance on the dealership) that the newer tractors have. They are mostly German built and much heavier than the equal hp tractors of newer series. This makes a big difference when lifting heavy round bales. My old JD 5410 (65 pto hp) couldn't lift a 5'X6' bale without the rear end lifting most of the time. The JD 2555, which weighs nearly twice as much at the same 65 pto hp. lifts it without a problem and even lifts wet bales that my friends JD 6220 can't handle. It is a good reliable machine that just keeps on going. I sold my 2001 JD 5410 with 1500 hours to buy the 1987 2555 with 3000 hours. My neighbor thought I was nuts. Now 4 years later he admits that it was a smart move. He is a believer and is looking for a low hour 50 or 55 series John Deere himself. "
