"I bought this tractor new in 1990 while building a house. I had an 8N that slid down a hill while mowing. Never again! This 4x4 never found a place it couldn't go. It runs an 8-foot field mower, post hole attachment, woods backhoe, and 8-foot scraper box. Anything I have asked it to do, it has done well. The loader has cleared a long driveway in many blizzards (I wish I had a cab) and has built several builds using a homemade boom stick to lift roof trusts. It is just a great tractor for its size. I wouldn't part with it. "

"This is the best tractor I have ever owned. Several of my friends ask me to sell it to them all the time. I have had other Fords that were great and a John Deere 2010, but this is the best. I have bush hogged a 20 acre pasture, cleared land with very rough terrain, built three houses and horse stables, and it just keeps going. This tractor was used when I purchased it in 2000. All I have ever had to do was replace the starter water pump and a muffler. I have used it for hundreds and hundreds of hours. I wish they still produced this tractor."

REVIEWER'S ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Pros: Perfect size for 25 to 30 acres Cons: After riding all day in rough terrain the seat could be more comfortable Type of User: Homeowner 10-50 Acres Location: USA NC I also considered buying:

"My father bought this tractor brand new when his Ford 8N with a loader on it died. We used to use this tractor to bale 5,000 bales a year with a NH 272 hayliner. It's a little light for a full wagon but hey, cut with a 7-foot haybine etc till - we got a TC55DA and TN75A. It starts in the coldest weather so it's great for logging. It has awesome power and is better than anything new in its class on the market today. Ours has a 12x12 super shuttle shift transmission."

REVIEWER'S ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Pros: Everything Cons: Can't find too many for sale, and a full hay wagon tends to push a little Type of User: Homeowner 100+ Acres Location: USA NY I also considered buying:

"This is the best small tractor ever built! This is not a big tractor, but for me its perfect. I bush hogged twenty acres, cleared graded land for two houses. used it for landscaping, and used it for back filling everything!!! It's a work horse. I looked at trading it a few years ago but the new tractors just don't have the feel or power this one does. The tag reads FORD NEW HOLLAND built in Japan. The service manager at local New Holland dealer says built in 1992. I purchased it around 2002 , Most of my friends, as well as 90% of North Carolina, is John Deer country, however all that have used it say that's the best , strongest small tractor they have ever seen. The only problems ever : rebuilt starter, replace muffler, and a front drive leak that I have not fixed yet. "

Pros: Best small tractor I have used Cons: None Type of User: Homeowner 10-50 Acres Location: USA NC I also considered buying:

"This small tractor has plenty of power. However the rest of the unit is not built quite as strong as power provided. The replacement parts are rather expensive when you over work the tractor. Overall very good tractor. "

"Started off with a Farmall Cub that my Dad bought. Traded the Cub for a 1945 9N Ford in 1962. Still have and use the 9N. Bought a Ford 1920 in '93. It has a loader and back hoe. Bought a New Holland TC30 in 2005. All three tractors have snow plows and rear blades (we plow one mile of road and 14 driveways off it). Other PTO equipment I have are: flail mower, wood chipper and, wood splitter. 3 point crane, rear scoop and grader with scafire. Tow behind DR Power Grader and dump trailer."

REVIEWER'S ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Pros: All I've done to the 1920 in 20 years is adjust the clutch once and replace the front tires. Cons: 1920 doesn't like being on its side, did that once, I didn't like it either. Type of User: Homeowner 1-10 Acres Location: USA NY I also considered buying:

The Best Tool

"I started with a 9N. It had more headaches than I did. I bought the 1920 Ford 4WD from the newspaper classified ads for $13,000. And when I first saw it I was eager to have it. It was outstanding. They had done all the regular scheduled maintenance and it was super clean. I have also kept up with the schedule and have been rewarded with the best tool on the place. There was a Ford front end loader and a 6' mower attached. I have a limestone base property and sometimes I'm over-matched trying to uproot one of the huge rock pieces but the 1920 is a good fit for me. I love it. It's not a closed cab and doesn't have A/C but I still love it. It's a basic tractor that gives great service. The 4WD gives it extra power! I've never taken it in for repair. I have taken components in to be rebuilt but I do most the repair and upkeep myself. I had goats for several years and planted oats and sudan for them. Never did any hay. I'd buy it again! "

REVIEWER'S ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Pros: 4WD & ease of maintenance. Cons: There are no cons. I can tear up more crap with this than ever. Type of User: Homeowner 10-50 Acres Location: USA TX I also considered buying:

"Bought this little jewel about two months ago. It has a front loader and a factory frame mount backhoe. It is a four wheel drive. Have used it to dig a four hundred foot water line, a two hundred foot electric line, and done some repair work on my leach lines. Has a 8 and 12 inch backhoe bucket. Have also dug some holes and planted some 1500 lb trees. So far, no complaints. Have to used a screwdriver to start it without a key, but my daddy did the same for over thirty years on his ford, so I guess its okay."

REVIEWER'S ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Pros: Factory frame mount backhoe does great, has enough power to handle most of the tasks I have asked of it. Cons: Compared to a Kubota, does just as good a job, and saved thousands. Type of User: Homeowner 1-10 Acres Location: USA MO I also considered buying: Kubota B2910, Ford 2000 (New)
