"My tractor is as old as my father-in-law. Like him, it isn't exactly fast nor especially strong. But when the work needs done, it buckles down and does it, at the slow and unrelenting pace that it can manage. The work DOES get done, eventually. Considering the list of things still out there that are at work after 60+ years is so short, the tractor's continued performance even at the tag end of poor previous ownership, spotty maintenance and a lifetime of being kept outdoors without cover, is testament to solid original engineering and good quality."

"Still use the Farmall A, grandad put wood blocks on the clutch and brake so I could drive while he stacked hay from the hay loader. Might have been 6 years old then. It has the hydraulic loader kit in it that Farmall sold for that model for cleaning the manure out of the barn, it still works well in the sugar bush, as we no longer farm the land. My worst episode with it was getting stuck in the river at low water, then the water came up that afternoon and dad and grandad rigged chain blocks to get her out....not a popular stunt. I am now 67 and still work the same sugar bush. - Steve"

"The tractor was my grandfathers. He bought it new in 1939. My grandfather passed away in 1942. After he passed, my dad got the tractor, plow, sickle bar mower and disc. We had it on the farm where I was born and raised, we sold the farm and tractor in 1961. I had not seen the tractor since we sold the farm. I called my uncle in West Virginia and ask him to locate it for me. He called me and said he found the tractor but it was in bad condition and the guy who owns wanted $200.00 for it. I told him to buy it and I would come down an pick it up. I have about 80% restored. "

"This beautiful fully operational tractor was restored by a man who gave a great deal of attention to detail. Besides an immaculate IH red paint job, It has replicas of all the original tractor decals that appeared on the tractor when new. He also restored the Farmall metal company logo on the front of the tractor, which was given to him for Valentine's Day by his wife. The original shiny black tires are still on the tractor, though they have some checking. It had been stored inside the previous owner's barn for the last 25 years. That same previous owner replaced the magneto with a 6v generator, starter, and battery. The original hand crank was still with the tractor. It has attachment pieces so that a cultivator could be used if we are able to purchase one in the future. I really like the sound of the muffler flap that flips to it's own little rhythm while it is idling and gives this tractor real personality. This beautiful little vintage tractor makes us smile or laugh, but at the same time it can handle some serious work. We purchased our Farmall with a 7' sickle bar mower from the same owner and mowed our fields this year. It took a little effort to get the hang of mowing the rows so that hay wasn't left standing. We also purchased an old classic IH Dump Rake that was in excellent condition and it worked great for our small fields. It was originally blue and red in color and we are considering restoring it. My husband only had to replace the trailer ball hitch to match the tractor hitch. He also mounted a pulley wheel, lever system, and rope to manually operate the rake himself. This tractor, mower and rake were a success for our first attempt to harvest our own hay. My husband also built a hand baler out of plywood and 2X4's. We now have our shed full of wonderful sweet smelling bales of meadow grass and hay for our pet goat."

"My "A" is a couple of years older than myself and she'll still outwork me any day. Its hard to believe that a little tractor has been able to do so much work for almost 70 years! Am pretty sure the engine and trans/drive have never been into and it still never smokes and can mow (5 foot Woods bellymower) or cultivate all day without a problem. Hope next winter I can fix the steering (still workable), get some new tires, get her on pure 12volts and put new red paint. This "A" will be ready for another 50 years for my Son and Grandsons. See a Farmall A sitting around? Grab it fast, it'll be the best machine you ever owned."

"Bought to restore after visiting Red Power Round Up 2010 in Laporte, Indiana.The Farmall A is my first tractor and is currently being restored by my father and myself so we can have the satisfaction of saying that we did it. Built in April 1941 in Chicago it has spent it life in Southland, New Zealand. It is crank start and has never had a place to mount a starter motor.It has the adjustable front axle, PTO, belt pulley, full set of wheel weights and the dual fuel set up and still has the dual fuel manifold.It is fitted with 4.00 x 15 front tyres and 9.5 x 24 rears."
