Bolens Large Frame 2WD Diesel

Model year: 0 Date Purchased: 2011-06-01 Number of Hours: 880

"I purchased this tractor after running a Craftsman 18.5 hp lawn tractor for 2 years maintaining 8.5 acres. The little Craftsman just was not built for this type of work and I needed something bigger. The budget committee (wife) and I decided on a $3,000 budget which limited my options to a older used model. I had really focused on getting a Farmall Cub since they are reliable, parts are available, and it would be the right size for the job. I didn't like thought that its hitch was specialized and it doesn't have a standard PTO. This Bolens diesel came with a 60" rear mower (yes, it's too big for her) a rear blade and he threw in a single bottom plow. I have run her for 3 years now with only a couple of problems: the drive shaft between the clutch and the hydro system stripped (easy fix with a heavy duty bolt through the shaft) and she occasionally overheats with that big 60" deck. I put chains on the back (no front/rear/tire weight) and only gotten her stuck in a very deep ditch ever. This tractor just does not stop. It's the perfect size for my property chores without being too big, and the price was o-so-right!"

REVIEWER'S ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Pros: Right size for the job, easy to maintain. Cons: Parts sometimes hard to find, could use a few more HP. Type of User: Homeowner 1-10 Acres Location: USA MI I also considered buying: Farmall Cub Lo-Boy, Case 446

Model year: 1980 Date Purchased: 2010-05-05 Number of Hours: 500

"Bought this tractor from the original owner in 2010. It's a low hours machine that spent most of its life under a tarp or in a shed. When I got her she ran like a top, but soon required a new clutch, pressure plate, throw-out and pilot bearings. I also took the time to strip and repaint the sheetmetal and frame. My G154 came equipped with the front end loader and backhoe, which have proven to be very useful with the small jobs I have completed. The backhoe is useful, but slightly under-powered. Four wheel drive is a big help with the front end loader work. Definitely recommend anyone considering and FEL equipped machine to have 4x4. "

REVIEWER'S ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Pros: 4x4 + AG tires = unstoppable, FEL & BH very useful. Cons: The diesel engine is slightly underpowered. Type of User: Homeowner 100+ Acres Location: USA MA I also considered buying:
